Developmental Assessment: Searching for Answers

After weeks of worry and discussion, we finally decided to take the next step and get Parth assessed. It was not an easy decision. As parents, we kept hoping he would catch up with time, that the differences we saw were just temporary. But the questions in our hearts grew stronger, and we knew we needed clarity.

In February 2018, we began the process of a developmental assessment. Those days are still fresh in our memory. Parth was observed, tested, and guided through different activities. Some tasks he handled well, especially anything that involved movement or repetition. But others, like following instructions, focusing for longer, or responding with words, made his struggles clear.

Sitting in the room, watching him, was not easy. Every time he hesitated, cried, or avoided eye contact, our hearts ached. We wanted to step in and help him, but we also knew the specialists needed to see his natural responses. For the first time, we were forced to face what we had been quietly fearing, that Parth’s challenges were not just habits or phases, but something deeper.

The assessment lasted several days, and by the end of it, we were given results that confirmed our concerns. It was overwhelming. On one hand, we finally had some direction. On the other, we were filled with fear about what this meant for his future.

Looking back, those days marked a turning point. They were the bridge between uncertainty and acceptance, between questions and a path forward. It was the beginning of understanding Parth more deeply, and preparing ourselves for the journey that lay ahead.
